Our patrons are now able to stop into the Harris-Elmore or Genoa Branch Library and pick up a free rapid COVID-19 test kit that they can use at home.

The self-administered, at-home Abbott BinaxNOW COVID-19 rapid antigen test kits have been provided by the Ohio Department of Health at no cost to patrons or to the library.  The tests provide results within 15 minutes and detects the virus in the early part of the disease when people are most infectious.

The tests are designed to be taken at home and is not intended to be administered at or by the library.

Tests may be picked up via the library curbside service and also at the library circulation desk.

Please call (419) 862-2482 for Elmore pickup or (419) 855-3380 for Genoa pick up.

There are two types of tests available:

PROCTORED HOME TEST

Patrons will need to download the Navica app from the Apple App Store or Google Play App Store and create an account. Then, scan in a code on the test's box and watch a two-minute online instruction video at ohio.emed.com.

When you're ready to start testing, a proctor from eMed joins you on your computer or other device to walk you through the process and watch to ensure the test is completed properly.   The antigen test requires the user to insert a nasal swab into a nostril, add drops to it and close the kit.

Results are then returned through the NAVICA app, and the NAVICA pass can be used to demonstrate a test result to an employer, school, or other party. For public health reporting, eMed sends results through the electronic lab reporting system.

We have had questions about the expiration date on the free BinaxNow Covid-19 Home Tests the Library distributes to everyone that asks for one. Abbott has continued to check the home test for product stability and has shared with the FDA and those distributing the test that the home tests have a shelf life of up to 12 months. The home tests we distribute may have an expiration date that has passed but we've been assured that they are still good to use. To see the lot number, original expiration date, and new expiration date use this link.
